Nurses Belong in Nursing Home Act
Consumer Voice reported:
On February 12, 2026, Sen. Ron Wyden (D-OR) and six Senate Democrats introduced the Nurses Belong in Nursing Homes Act, aiming to restore federal staffing standards that were recently eliminated by the Trump administration. In 2024, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) finalized a minimum staffing rule that would have required nursing homes to have a registered nurse on staff 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, and meet other minimum staffing requirements. This rule was estimated to save 13,000 lives annually. On February 2, 2026, the Trump Administration rescinded these requirements.
Consumer Voice submitted comments in strong opposition to the rescission of the staffing standard. Consumer Voice is grateful to Senator Wyden and his colleagues for standing with nursing home residents and introducing this important legislation.
