Taking the Fifth

The Fifth Amendment protects criminals (and innocent people) from testifying against themselves. Trump henchmen Roger Stone, John Eastman, Alex Jones, and Jeffrey Clark are asserting their constitutional right to avoid self-incrimination for criminal behavior related to the January 6, 2021 insurrection. Taking the Fifth is controversial.

Republican politicians Scott Perry (R-Pa), Andy Biggs (R-AZ), Paul Gosar (R-AZ), Mo Brooks (R-AL), Jim Jordan (R-OH), Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), and Lauren Boebert (R-CO) participated in the attempted coup but deny criminal involvement. Many will seek protection from the Fifth Amendment soon. Justice is coming.

Representative Tom Rice (R-SC) said he regrets voting against certifying the 2020 election. Rice told Politico:

“In retrospect I should have voted to certify. Because Trump was responsible for the attack on the Capitol.”
