Omicron Risk

The evidence now proves that somebody infected with Omicron is less likely to need hospital treatment than somebody infected with an earlier version of Covid. Omicron is so contagious that it has led to an explosion of mild cases. Symptoms are milder on average than among people who were hospitalized in previous waves.

Millions of adults remain unvaccinated and vulnerable. We are still suffering over a thousand deaths a day as a country. The vast majority of those daily deaths are those people who continue not to get the vaccine.

Experts continue to urge booster shots, wear KN95 or N95 masks and mandate vaccination. All of those measures would reduce hospital crowding and death.
