Pre-Existing Conditions

The October KFF Health Tracking Poll finds a large majority (79%) of the public do not want the Supreme Court to overturn the Affordable Care Act’s protections for people with pre-existing medical conditions, up 17 percentage points since last year when 62% held this view.

Trump has said he wants justices who would “do the right thing” and invalidate the health care law. Judge Barrett said with a smirk:

I’m not here on a mission to destroy the Affordable Care Act. I’m just here to apply the law and adhere to the rule of law.

And she even declined to say whether Medicare — the popular health-insurance program for older Americans that has existed for more than 50 years — was legal.
