Refusal to Accept Patients

Thousands of people hospitalized across the country are stuck. Not in airports. In hospitals. These people do not need hospital care and treatment. Nursing homes refuse to accept them without getting more federal funds. The shortages in the long term care facilities restrict the hospitals’ ability to transfer those patients out of a hospital.

The nursing homes need to increase staffing to safe numbers. They don’t want to pay a living wage. Staffing agencies hired employees and promised better pay. The staffing agencies then turn around and charge the care facilities a lot more money to hire them back.

CMS won’t allow nursing homes to operate with unsafe staffing levels anymore. COVID is no longer a valid excuse. So the facilities want another bailout. Forget it. Many of the people stuck in the hospital can go to assisted living facilities instead of the dying nursing home industry.
