Poetic Justice?

Once again, South Carolina leads with stupidity. Republican politician Ralph Norman filed a lawsuit against House Speaker Nancy Pelosi over the mask mandate in the House of Representatives. The frivolous lawsuit came after the House Ethics Committee upheld the fines against the lawmakers for not wearing masks during a May vote. The mask mandate was lifted June 11 but reinstated again last week amid a rise in cases fueled by the more contagious delta variant.

Ralph Norman is the same politician who advocated for hydroxychloroquine as a treatment of the coronavirus pandemic. He is now positive for COVID-19 according to his tweet.

“Thankfully, I have been fully vaccinated and my symptoms remain mild.”

However, less than 41 percent of South Carolina’s population is fully vaccinated. DHEC reports 2,500 new daily cases. Right before school starts. Test positivity rate is over 12%. We need it lower than 5%.

According to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 45% of nursing home staff are unvaccinated. We are going to have another tough Fall Season.
