Pandemic of the Unvaccinated
The United States reported more than 1,000 COVID-19 deaths yesterday, equating to around 42 fatalities an hour. all the deaths were unvaccinated people. This is now a pandemic of the unvaccinated. However, that includes vulnerable children who cannot get vaccinated yet.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention stated the delta variant accounts for more than 98.8% of American cases. Evidence proves that coronavirus vaccines continue to provide strong protection against severe disease and hospitalization, but their ability to prevent mild illness against the delta variant and other mutations is unknown. Breakthrough infections in vaccinated people are increasing. We can stop the “pandemic of the unvaccinated” by getting vaccinated if you are able.
The South Carolina Supreme Court ruled yesterday that a mask mandate by USC does not violate the state laws. In South Carolina, DHEC reports that 88% of the 14,262 reported cases were not fully vaccinated. I am looking forward to getting a booster shot when available.
The federal government will also direct all nursing homes to require vaccination for staffers or face loss of Medicare and Medicaid funds. The new regulations would apply to 1.3 million caregivers in 15,000 facilities.
