Elder Abuse Investigation
A woman in Oregon, was arrested following an elder abuse investigation. The Authorities from the Sheriff’s Office began looking into the case after receiving a report concerning the possible neglect of an elderly person. The sheriffs emphasized the seriousness of elder abuse and encouraged the public to report suspected neglect or mistreatment, highlighting their commitment to protecting vulnerable members of the community.
Upon the investigation, the deputies determined that the elderly victim was living in unsafe and unsanitary conditions. 62-year-old Gina Arredondo was
arrested and charged with a 2nd degree mistreatment. She was taken to the Coo County Jail. This case remains under investigation as authorities will continue to ensure the well-being of the elderly involved.
On May 10, 2025, Sergeant Slater had arrested Dorothy Shaw in Powers, Oregon, during an ongoing Elder Abuse investigation that involved a 70-year-old vulnerable adult under full-time care. Two days before, on May 8, 2025, Adult Protective Services received a report from a caregiver that on April 29, Dorothy Shaw had threatened the resident with a fixed blade knife and struck the resident with it.
She also expressed the intention to buy a bullet to harm the same resident along with others. A call on May 9 with the Sheriff’s office raised concerns for the
residents and Dorothy Shaw’s behavior. A previous criminal history check was also performed, which revealed her previous felony convictions. As the timeline continues, sheriffs conducted a search warrant on May 10th, taking Ms. Shaw’s knife from her purse along with 15.9 grams of Methamphetamine.
She was arrested and charged with Criminal Misconduct, Unlawful Use of Weapon, and Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamine. Ms. Shaw was immediately transported to the Coos County Jail, where she remains in custody. The resident under the risk and harm of abuse was located, and officials kept the vulnerable adult safe from harm. The sheriff’s office, APD, and APS will make sure they protect the vulnerable residents.
