Care Compare

The Trump Administration announced the completion of a plan to dilute information on Nursing Home Compare.  The consumer-friendly Nursing Home Compare website will merge with Care Compare.  The new website will be a larger database of public information on a variety of health care providers. Nobody knows why Trump made the unnecessary change. Nursing Home Compare has successfully served as a resource for consumers since 1998.

Care Compare is the overhauled Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) site which compiles information about nursing homes, home health services, inpatient rehabilitation facilities, long-term acute care hospitals, dialysis providers, and hospitals. The site provides a checklist of information that potential residents and their families can use when evaluating nursing homes.

CMS has provided a running tally of COVID-19 infections and deaths in nursing homes since June. It is unclear if that information will be public or included on the new site.
