Cameras and Deterrence

Seniors of Urban Living, also known as the Soul Network, is calling on lawmakers to pass a bill allowing cameras inside nursing homes. WBTV reported the Charlotte-based organization that provides resources and education to avoid elderly abuse. Experts say cameras would keep staff accountable and deter mistreatment. Right now, it’s up to each facility whether they’ll allow a camera.

“A camera, it shows exactly what happened. That’s evidence. The camera is evidence.”

–Soul Network administrator Martha Hunter.

WBTV found at least 13 states already have a law in place allowing families to install cameras in a loved one’s room.
