Mistake Causes Nursing Home Resident to Die

At 99 years old, the woman who wanted to reach the milestone of 100 has passed away due to a fatal nursing home mistake.

Although blind and elderly, the staff at the Glan Rhos facility in Wales decided to give Margaret Eluned Roberts a boiling hot cup of tea to drink by herself.

Soon after, she was found in distress with her arms raised. Margaret was then transferred to the hospital to care for her burns, then back to the nursing home, and then back to the hospital where she passed away.

The coroner listed the burns as the reason for her death, along with pneumonia and cellulitis as secondary causes and asthma and ischemic heart disease as contributing factors. He also ruled the facility’s careless act to be a “mistake”

Her grieving daughter stated that her mother just “wanted to reach 100 years old,” and “It would have been such a significant milestone.
