TikTok Ban

TikTok is heading towards a shutdown in the United States on Sunday when the deadline expires for the platform’s Chinese owner ByteDance to either divest ownership or cease operations. The Republican House passed the Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act (PAFACA) last year.

Congressman Michael McCaul (R-TX), the author of the bill to ban TikTok, owns hundreds of thousands of dollars of stock in Meta, one of TikTok’s chief rivals. Senator Markwayne Mullin (R-OK) bought up to $50,000 worth of Meta stock last January before voting to ban TikTok in April. TikTok CEO Shou Chew is scheduled to attend the president-elect’s inauguration on Monday.
