Mariner Malfeasance

The San Francisco Chronicle reported infamous California operator Mariner Health Care Inc. operates nursing homes with unsafe staffing levels and qualifications. A federal court issued a preliminary injunction for 19 of its facilities. The injunction will ensure residents at these facilities are given proper care in a safer environment.

The California nursing home chain is being forced into state oversight after authorities say they understaffed facilities and improperly discharged patients for years. The evidence shows the chain violated federal and state laws for the last five years. How many vulnerable and elderly were neglected?

California AG filed complaints that Mariner was understaffing its facilities subjecting patients to neglect and abuse. Mariner also inflated its SNF ratings to the CMS. The state Department of Justice (DOJ) said in a statement these acts violate the state’s Unfair Competition Law and False Advertising Law,

Nineteen facilities were named in discharge allegations. Five failed state staffing laws. Mariner facilities must report compliance starting April 1, 2023, according to the injunction filing.
