Stealing Drugs

Two caregivers of Quillen Manor Independent & Assisted Living in Fountain Inn face criminal charges for stealing drugs from residents. A Greenville County Grand Jury indicted Kelly Michelle Morgan also known as Kelly Morgan-Cardinale, and Bryanna Marie Govin. The charges include stealing prescription medications from nursing home residents. How horrible.

Investigators discovered that both women used their employment status at the facility to obtain access to controlled substances prescribed to the individuals under the defendants’ care. The women unlawfully possessed controlled substances. The stolen prescriptions were for the vulnerable adults residing at the facility.

Morgan faces the following charges: unlawful possession of a controlled substance, three counts of attempt to furnish false or fraudulent information, furnishing false or fraudulent information, unauthorized practice of nursing, two counts of neglect of vulnerable adult, trafficking in illegal drugs.

Govin faces these charges: unlawful possession of a controlled substance, four counts of unlawful possession of a controlled substance.

Substance abuse among health care professionals is a real problem. Being overworked and suffering burn-out leads to depression and drug misuse. Short-staffing not only negatively affects residents’ care but also creates a hostile work environment for the caregivers.
