Left in the Snow

Renaissance of Richfield/Bath assisted living facility failed to keep a resident safe and allowed her to wander away. Resident and vulnerable adult Peggy Jirousek suffered from hypothermia which led to her premature and wrongful death. Caregivers found her in the snow.

Officials have not said when she exited the facility, or how long she was outside before she was found dead. The nursing home directed questions to an outside security firm, SACS Consulting and Investigative Service. SACS Consulting provides security for the assisted living facility but denies security guards should have been there at the time of the incident.

Renaissance of Richfield/Bath’s website says it provides assisted living and memory care for seniors with dementia or Alzheimer’s. According to the website, the facility is “designed with cutting-edge technology to provide security and safety” and “members have access to beautiful and secure outdoor courtyards.”

The Summit County Medical Examiner’s Chief Investigator Gary Guenther will investigate.
