Healthcare Fraud
The DOJ announced the arrest of Kevin S. Murdock of Premier Medical Laboratory Services in Greenville, S.C. for fraud. The charges include health care fraud and conspiracy to commit health care fraud. According to the 16-count indictment, Murdock conspired with Thomas C. Lee and Vidhya V. Narayanan who were employees of the company.
This Greenville company previously agreed to use their Medicare and Medicaid funds to help provide testing services for medical providers. This included services such as testing COVID-19 tests. However, they are accused of devising a complex, multi-part scheme where false claims were submitted about the number of tests conducted.
Essentially, while the world was isolated and suffered from the rapid spread of COVID-19, a company in our own backyard is suspected of having stolen tax-payer funds and lying about helping medical providers. The unfortunate event is expected to have continued to take place after COVID as well.
The accused “businessmen” face up to 10 years in prison and fines of up to $250,000.
