CDC Strike Team

WBTV gave an update on the outbreak at the White Oak Manor facility in Kings Mountain. CDC sent a Strike Team to investigate and assist.

White Oak Manor Kings Mountain has 171 cases among residents and staff to date. The outbreak arose within the last six weeks. More than 70 percent of residents are infected. Obviously poor infection control persists.

Two main issues exist in the nursing home according to the Cleveland County health department. 1. White Oak is not set up to group sick patients and staff together to keep others from getting sick. 2. staff members were moving symptomatic residents to an area with sick people without knowing the COVID test result. The biggest problem is where to place infected residents now.

“To me, it’s just alarming, said Danny McDowell. “I could hardly believe it.” McDowell said his family works there, his church sings there and he visits residents living there. “It’s sad because it’s not going to get any better. It’s gonna continue to get worse,” McDowell said.  “I’m wondering how’s the place still open how are they still functioning?”

Hopefully the CDC Strike Team will prevent more spread and save lives. It is too bad White Oak did not better prepare their staff for the outbreak. If you or a loved one have been affected, we are here to help.  Stay safe.
