Stolen Funds

Yet another nurse has been caught and arrested for fraud after investigations suggest she stole about $23,000 from a nursing home resident’s bank account.

The incident took place at local Woodland Country Manor Nursing Home and the nurse now resides in the Butler County Jail.

Considering the volume of stolen funds, one is likely to wonder how long this was going on, and if any other staff members were involved in this corruption. It also remains unknown if other residents’ have also been made victims of the staff’s unlawful greed.

However, it is lucky that the Butler County Sheriff’s office actually received a call reporting the stolen funds in the first place. Because of this, a comprehensive criminal investigation was able to take place where Hoop was identified as the primary suspect and soon admitted to stealing the money. This is one of many examples as to why family members of residents should pay careful attention to their elders’ assets, well-being, and finances while in a nursing home.

It is continuously disappointing to see employees hired and trained to protect our most vulnerable population engaging in such directly damaging behavior.  However, families of residents should be cautious of the financial information they turn over to professional nursing staff, as nursing homes have once again proven to be completely incapable of ethically handling this confidential data. This rare insight into the daily corruption of the nursing home industry is likely to cause families of vulnerable adults to question if they’re really comfortable with such staff being responsible for the well-being of their family member when they cannot even be trusted with basic financial documents.
