Buckeye Chai files for bankruptcy after selling facilities to PACS
Buckeye Chai, an Ohio-based owner of skilled nursing facilities, filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy on August 5, 2025, just months after selling its nursing homes to the chain Providence Group or Providence Administrative Consulting Services.
The company reported debts of up to $10 million, reflecting ongoing financial struggles despite the recent sales.
The bankruptcy case, overseen by Judge Tyson A. Crist in the Southern District of Ohio, is part of a growing trend of financial instability in the skilled nursing sector, driven by staffing shortages, rising operational costs, and regulatory pressures.
A creditors’ meeting is scheduled for September 4, 2025, with claims due by October 14 (government claims by February 2, 2026). Buckeye Chai is being represented by Allen Stovall Neuman & Ashton LLP during the proceedings.
