Criminal charges against nursing home staffers

Many staff members of the Colonial Heights Nursing Home were seen before a judge because of an investigation associated with elder abuse within the facility. The facility failed to provide services necessary to maintain the health, safety, and well-being of the residents. The resident was left in her feces and urine, not properly turned, and not changed when the resident should have been.

The court postponed cases for certain staff members, but four were charged with felonies of abuse and neglect. As time went on, more evidence and more victims have been discovered within the facility, making Colonial Heights look worse. Devastatingly, there were five staff members accused of falsifying patient records. These employees stated they had used the Hoyer Lift even though they had not. The employees that had done wrong are going to face abuse and neglect charges. They have done wrong to more than one resident in the Colonial Heights facility.

The worst and scariest part of this situation is that a staff member had pleaded guilty to falsifying patient records, but the only punishment was participating in 80 hours of community service with an educational course on vulnerable adults. After the staff members had completed this, they were allowed to return to work. This is frightening because it is possible that this course and community service will not make the person change.

Investigators believe that there are many more cases within this facility (at least 4) that will be investigated if any evidence is discovered. There are issues within the Colonial Heights Nursing Home Facility, and they need to be resolved and put to an end.
