Workforce Housing

McKnight’s reported that workforce housing is a new way to attract or retain caregivers at nursing homes. Nursing homes can provide housing in nearby affordable apartments. Many nursing homes in expensive areas need to do this to attract low-wage earners.

The latest to create this employee benefit is Martha’s Vineyard Hospital. Navigator Homes of Martha’s Vineyard will build apartments for the skilled nursing staff in an effort to attract low wage earners to expensive locales. The Department of Agriculture is loaning Navigator $44 million for the project.

Market analysis is a key part of any project development or operation. Workforce housing may contribute to staffing success or improve recruitment and retention in communities. It depends on housing resources and affordability, wages, and key economic factors like strong schools, and healthy communities.
