Trump Lawyer Admits to “Big Lie”

Sidney Powell spread baseless claims of election fraud, the Big Lie. Powell is Trump’s campaign lawyer. She repeatedly spread the Big Lie. Somehow, President Biden’s 8 million vote victory over Donald Trump was the result of fraud. Specifically, she emphasized the Dominion Voting Systems machines. Dominion Voting Systems then filed a defamation lawsuit against her. Now, however, she admits that the allegations of voter fraud were false. No evidence exists to support the allegations.
Election officials now admit that Biden’s substantial victory over Trump was the product of a free and fair election. Trump supporters and officials concur that Biden won fair and square. Even Rudy Giuliani said Powell’s arguments went beyond “the bounds of rationality, common sense, and the law.”
Trump still refuses to admit the truth. He lost. The former President refuses to repudiate his false claims to unite the County. He most likely never will.
The Defense
Powell’s “defense” is the same one used by other conspiracy nuts like Alex Jones and Tucker Carlson: that “no reasonable person would conclude that the statements” made “were truly statements of fact.” In other words, everyone should know she is a liar who makes things up.
Powell argues in her motion that “no reasonable person” would conclude that her accusations of Dominion’s election-rigging scheme “were truly statements of fact.” Incredible. How does she still have a law license? Over 4,000 lawyers have already signed an open letter calling on “bar disciplinary authorities” to investigate Powell’s behavior.
Dominion sued Powell for $1.3 billion over her crazy conspiracy theories. She alleged without evidence that Dominion was part of a massive international communist plot to rig the election. Powell knew the claim was patently false.
“Indeed, Plaintiffs themselves characterize the statements at issue as ‘wild accusations’ and ‘outlandish claims.’ They are repeatedly labelled ‘inherently improbable’ and even ‘impossible.’ Such characterizations of the allegedly defamatory statements further support Defendants’ position that reasonable people would not accept such statements as fact but view them only as claims that await testing by the courts through the adversary process.”
Lawyers representing Dominion wrote in the suit against Powell:
“Dominion brings this action to set the record straight. There are mountains of direct evidence that conclusively disprove Powell’s vote manipulation claims against Dominion — namely, the millions of paper ballots that were audited and recounted by bipartisan officials and volunteers in Georgia and other swing states, which confirmed that Dominion accurately counted votes on paper ballots.”
Meanwhile, as Powell admits that her conspiracy theories aren’t true, Trump is on Fox News still pushing the Big Lie. Sad.
