The “Fauci Effect”
Dr. Anthony Fauci is director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. Fauci is a true American hero. The youth of America seems to agree. Even as college and university enrollment overall has dropped this fall, a record number of applicants to medical school exists. Experts call it the “Fauci Effect”.
The number of applicants is up 18% this year over last year, according to the Association of American Medical Colleges, or AAMC. The increase is driven by the example of medical workers and public health figures such as Fauci. The applications come as the nation faces a projected shortage of physicians.
Stanford University School of Medicine reports a 50% jump in the number of applications, or 11,000 applications for 90 seats. Boston University School of Medicine says applications are up 27%, to 12,024 for about 110 seats.
Fauci said he sees the increase of applicants as a sign that people are thinking about social justice. He says “that you have responsibility not only to yourself, but as an integral part of society.” Fauci is a leader. He publicly got the vaccine.
Hopefully, more people will go into nursing as well. The nursing home industry is desperate for competent and qualified staff.
Merry Christmas!! Be safe. Wear a mask.
Meanwhile, GOP politicians continue to downplay the pandemic and ignore safety measures while receiving the vaccine. Congress was prioritized for inoculation to maintain governmental continuity. Hypocrites.
