No Shame At All
No Shame at all
Trump at his rally Saturday was already using RBG’s death as the source for a new disgusting campaign chant. His fanatical cult followers scream with herd mentality, “Fill that seat!” Recently, CNN listed some of the Republican Senators’ statements about not giving Merrick Garland a vote in 2016.
“In 2016, when conservative Scalia — a good personal friend of Ginsburg — suddenly died during Obama’s last year in office, then-candidate Trump said the GOP should block the nominee (“It’s called delay, delay, delay,” he said). McConnell went on to make a bold bet, refusing to even hold hearings on Obama’s centrist court nominee, Merrick Garland.”
McConnell said his 2016 decision was “about a principle, not a person.” Then he lied saying it was tradition (it is not).
As for Ginsburg herself, the legend and cultural icon delivered one last dying wish to her granddaughter Clara Spera days before her death: “My most fervent wish is that I will not be replaced until a new president is installed.”
A Despicable Hypocrite.
“I want you to use my words against me,” Graham, the chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee, had said in 2016.
“If there’s a Republican president in 2016 and a vacancy occurs in the last year of the first term, you can say Lindsey Graham said, ‘Let’s let the next president, whoever it might be, make that nomination.’ And you could use my words against me and you’d be absolutely right.”
In the video, Graham added that he was setting a precedent for future Supreme Court nominations.
“We’re setting a precedent here today, Republicans are, that in the last year…that you’re not gonna fill a vacant seat of the Supreme Court based on what we’re doing here today,” Graham continued. “That’s gonna be the new rule.”
Even after the contentious Kavanaugh hearing, Graham repeated his promise. During an interview in 2018, saying, “If an opening comes in the last year of President Trump’s term, and the primary process has started, we’ll wait to the next election.”
