John Durham Fails Again

A jury found Igor Danchenko — a private researcher who was a source for some information about Trump’s significant financial ties to Russia — not guilty of lying to the FBI about where he got his information. A website funded by a deep-pocketed Republican donor initially hired Fusion GPS to dig into Trump’s background. Fusion GPS hired Steele who created the dossier. But the FBI began to look into possible coordination between Trump’s campaign and Russia before it used the Steele dossier.

As you may recall, Mueller’s report said he could not arrest Trump for the conspiracy between the Trump campaign and Russia. Mueller’s report proved significant links between Trump campaign officials and the Kremlin. Evidence showed the Trump campaign was eager to benefit from Russia’s help in 2016, as well as detailing evidence of possible obstruction of the investigation.

The verdict is another blow for John Durham. Trump’s AG Bill Barr appointed the Trump ally to find bias in the FBI’s investigation of the Trump campaign in 2016. None exists.

Durham lost both cases that have gone to trial in his 3½-year investigation. Durham has cost taxpayers more than $5.8 million.

In May, a jury in D.C. federal court acquitted cybersecurity lawyer Michael Sussmann, who also was accused by the special counsel of lying to the FBI.

Journalist and professor Bill Grueskin collected the headlines from the Wall Street Journal’s editorial page for the past year. They read: “Durham Cracks the Russia Case,” “Durham Delivers on Russiagate,” “John Durham Shows How the FBI Lets Its Informants Mislead It,” and so on.

Trump predicted Durham would uncover “the crime of the century”. Wrong again.  The trial should be Durham’s last.
