Fundamental Leaks Health Data

Fundamental Administrative Services admitted that a few weeks ago, an another information breach took place at 87 skilled nursing facilities, putting over 56,000 individuals’ data at risk. The event took place between October and January when an “unauthorized actor” copied files from the company’s database. However, the company declined to acknowledge the event until now, at least 7 months later.

Due to long-term care facilities’ carelessness, our most vulnerable population has been put at even more risk—this time with their personal information. Hackers were able to access residents’ names, Social Security numbers, drivers’ licenses or state ID numbers, financial account information, date of birth, medical treatment information, health insurance policy numbers, and/or Medicare/Medicaid plan names.

While The Sparks company (an MD-based healthcare management services company) could not be bothered to put the extra effort required to properly protect thousands of their clients’ most personal data, they are now putting the responsibility on their clients to remain vigilant and continuously check for identity theft within their accounts.
