Doctor Shortage Worsens

The Trump administration’s suspension of immigrants’ work authorization renewals is sidelining thousands of foreign-born doctors. See Axios article. Homeland Security told Axios the freeze is necessary because the Biden administration didn’t properly “vet” the foreign-born doctors. Ridiculous.

Doctors have a short grace period to keep working after applying for a renewal but many doctors are forced to take unpaid absences or return home, immigrate elsewhere or stay in the U.S. without working.

An Ohio-based doctor tells Axios:

Even with us, there is [a] severe shortage. Can you imagine any physician loss, how it will impact the society here?
