Accessibility of PBJ Data

McKnights had an article about a electronic platform that will contain nursing home staffing data. Payroll-Based Journal data reporting files underwent a key platform change requiring skilled nursing providers to face a new submission system.

Dov Greenberg, founder of PBJ, claims the new platform will be faster and easier to use for providers. However, the new system requires identity verification that, if missed, can cause a manual review process that takes sever business days to finalize. If a provider fails to realize this, it can cause delays and lead to the provider failing to submit data in time.

This can seriously affect providers as the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid services has started to use PBJ metrics as “a measure of provider quality,” and missed submissions reflect poorly on the provider. This reason and more are why Stephanie Fitzgerald, RN, a clinical reimbursement consult is skeptical of the new system and claims it “can be complex and less than user-friendly.”

The new system was implemented to make things more beneficial and efficient but in reality, it could only cause more problems for skilled nursing providers, only time will tell.
