42% Complaints Uninvestigated
WKRN reported that an audit in Tennessee has revealed thousands of uninvestigated complaints against long-term care facilities; years of abuse and neglect and cover up. Some complaints went over five years without being even slightly addressed.
That’s 42% of total complaints filed against nursing homes within the last three years, uninvestigated.
The Tennessee Health Facilities Commission’s massive ignorance was only recently uncovered by the Tennessee Comptroller’s Office.
It is unclear why these complaints went uninvestigated or how many residents endured continuous and unnecessary harm because of it.
However, it is lucky this mishap was even noticed, as five years had already passed without concern.
The disappointment of this discovery goes without saying, as countless Tennesseans have had to watch their loved ones or personally experience substandard and harmful care, and were lied to about the tools they had to fight back against nursing home negligence and abuse.
Meanwhile nursing homes are likely content with the idea that their clients have been robbed of nearly any recourse they have to fight back against poor care.
