American Rescue Plan

Support

The American Rescue Plan is wildly popular. The coronavirus relief package contains a wide range of proposals. Most help Americans still struggling with the economic fallout of the pandemic.

A poll from Morning Consult says that a whopping 77% of Americans support the bill, including 59% of Republicans.  That is a bipartisanship bill.  It is one of the most popular pieces of major legislation in American history. The economy and employment are finally returning.  The U.S. economy added 380,000 jobs last month.

Opposition

Senator Ron Johnson is a Wisconsin Republican up for re-election next year. He is a crazy QAnon conspiracy nut. Not very popular in Wisconsin. He decided to delay the inevitable by requiring the Senate legislative clerk to read the 628-page bill out loud into the record.

“I’m less enthused by the point being made, because I’m not sure it really makes a point. It doesn’t punish anybody except members of the staff … and pretty much all 100 senators,” said Republican colleague Kevin Cramer (R-N.D).

Johnson’s choice to criticize the American Rescue Plan puts him on the record against $1,400 stimulus checks to millions of households and providing a $400 increase in unemployment benefits to the jobless. Stay Classy Ron.
