Sheriff Chuck Wright

Christian Boschult  at cboschult@postandcourier.com is a reporter at The Post and Courier who discovered Spartanburg Sheriff Chuck Wright is corrupt and stealing taxpayer funds. Wright makes $199,000 per year plus another $15,000 stipend from the state. However, he uses a county-funded credit card to pay for his Amazon Prime subscription, along with vacation stays at the Marriott Resort and Spa at Grande Dunes in Myrtle Beach’s poshest beachside neighborhood. Since December 2017, he’s put more than $53,600 on his card.

“It looks like he was having a lot of fun at the county’s expense,” said John Crangle, a Columbia-based government watchdog attorney who reviewed the credit card statements. “A lot of those expenditures don’t appear to be related to his office.”

There is no oversight of Wright’s corruption and abuse of funds. County councilors weren’t even aware that Wright had a county credit card or that he spent almost $12,000 on Apple.com.

“That’s kind of news to me,” one councilman said.

Strict rules apply including prohibitions on using their cards on Amazon and food, and a requirement that employees keep receipts.

If they don’t use their cards responsibly, they could be terminated. But Wright’s card isn’t part of that program and he’s not bound by those rules.

See a database of his purchases and attached the credit card statements so y’all can see them for yourselves.
