Texas “Freedom”
Texas has a gun problem. Another mass shooting. Rep. Keith Self appeared on CNN after a gunman opened fire in Allen. He represents the area. He complained that his constituents wanted legislators to do something to prevent these senseless deaths. When asked on CNN about people who note that “thoughts and prayers” do not solve mass shootings in America, he lashed out and said:
“Those are people that don’t believe in an almighty God who is absolutely in control of our lives. I’m a Christian. I believe that he is.”
It comes barely a week after five people were killed in Cleveland, Texas after a neighbor asked a man to stop shooting his rifle outside because a baby was trying to sleep. Self garnered criticism for the interview after a clip went viral on Twitter, amassing millions of views.
Senate Chaplain Barry Black said: “When babies die at a church school, it is time for us to move beyond thoughts and prayers.”
The gun problem needs more than thoughts and prayers.
